Letter O Week

We took a break for Christmas, and then another week plus because I got seriously sick with the flu. Now we are finally getting back in the swing of things.

Books:
Owl Babies by Martin Waddell
Owl Moon by Jane Yolan
Owls Live in Trees by Melvin Berger (or other short non-fiction on owls)
Little Owl's Night by Diyya Srinivasan
Ox-cart Man by Donald Hall
Owen and Mzee by Criag Hatkoff
Owen by Kevin Henkes
Owen's Marshmallow Chick by Kevin Henkes
Old Bear by Kevin Henkes
Over in the Meadow by Jill McDonald
Outside Over There by Maurice Sendak
Olivia series by Ian Falconer
Old MacDonald Had a Farm (We like Jane Cabrera, but any version will do!)
Octopus Socktopus by Nick Sharratt
Old Bear and His Cub by Olivier Dunrea
Ollie; Ollie the Stomper; Gideon and Otto by Olivier Dunrea
Oliver by Sid Hoff
I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean; I'm the Best Artist in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry

Also, counting books with the word "one" in the title such as One, Two, Buckle My Shoe by Jane Cabrera;  One Tractor by Alexandra Siy; or One Hole in the Road by W. Nikola-Lisa.

Activities:
  • Letter O item scavenger hunt (which was really hard for her) - we found orange, octopus, ovals, onion.  Other ideas: octagon, oatmeal, Oscar the Grouch, olives, ostrich.
  • Magnet sheets

William wanted to play like his sissy.

  • Find all the O's in the bag of magnet letters - she said all the O's lined up read "octopus" so I had her find the letters for octopus and we wrote that, too.

  • Watch letter O Playlist
  • Read letter O books
  • Watch Oliver and Company (very loosely related, I know!)
  • Find all the O's on a short piece of text
  • Color in the pictures of things that start with O

  • Make an O into an octopus

  • Cheerios on the Do-a-Dot page

 Letter O Playlist:
This first video is poor quality, but I left it because its one I strongly remember from childhood.  The rest of them are much better quality.

  1. Great ideas! I love all of the books you found with the O titles. Also, loved the Cheerios letter writing. What a great idea! I found some activities along the same lines for older kiddos who had disabilities and always thought they would work well with littler ones.
